CISO: What Is That All About? The CIO Also Wants to Know!

What does the title of CISO really mean? Who are we?, What do we do? Is it one size fits all as some recruiters seem to think? What are the competencies of the CISO? After three years of research, Mike Loginov provides insights from his new book CISO Defenders of the Cyber Realm.

Conversation on the role of the CISO seems appropriate, given it is a CIO / CISO summit, as the focus is really about alignment of what the CISO does and championing the need for competent CISOs to be supported across industry and enterprise.

Don't Break the Bank: Achieving Compliance in Financial Institutions Quickly and at Scale

Compliance regulations such as SWIFT and GDPR can be challenging to understand and implement. Many of these regulations have cybersecurity requirements that are focused on protecting critical banking infrastructure with aggressive timelines - and without disrupting the very business-critical systems you're trying to protect. Jumping from one set of requirements to another, and to subsequent internal and external audits, can feel like a never-ending cycle.

In this session, we will share thoughts on different approaches to handling the unique challenges a security practitioner in financial services can expect. We'll highlight Illumio's unique position helping the largest financial institutions in the world solve regulatory and compliance challenges quickly and at scale.

Takeaways:

  1. Top challenges facing global banking
  2. Approaches to protecting your "digital crown jewels"
  3. Pros and cons of different approaches
  4. How to future-proof for evolving requirements

Business-First Autonomous Networking Powered by Silver Peak's SD-WAN

For the past three years, the software-defined WAN or SD-WAN, has been one of the most talked about technology trends. While all the discussion and hype around SD-WAN has helped shine the spotlight on the business value enterprises can realize by changing the way they build their wide area networks, it has also led to confusion and in some cases delays of adoption. This session will focus on how market leaders Silver Peak are enabling real-live forward-thinking customers to shift to a business-first networking model where the network enables the business and every application gets the resources it truly needs. This new model goes beyond software-defined to an outcome-oriented self-driving wide area network that utilizes automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning to get smarter every day.

CIO's Got Talent: Finding, Growing & Retaining the Best People

While new technology and solutions can help CIOs make more, faster and better decisions for an organization, nothing will take the place of a highly talented workforce. CIOs need to be great recruiters of talent but even more importantly growing the skills and capabilities of their team providing engaging and challenging opportunities for people. Competitive compensation is important for retaining great talent but so is a work environment where individual growth and development are front of mind and not an afterthought.

Takeaways:

  1. Highly skilled employees want an environment where they can grow their skills and feel appropriately challenged.
  2. Finding the best people, inside and outside of your company, and then providing a path to individual excellence is a key responsibility of CIOs.

Fuel for the Future of Finance

Situation: The compliance requirements of securities regulations require financial institutions to capture more and more data across disparate communications channels. Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools, such data has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency and profitability of financial services organisations.

Complication: There are significant hurdles for firms seeking to fully capitalise on these technologies, tools and techniques. The breadth of data, which encompasses everything from voice to electronic communication, must be assessed holistically รข?" not only to find patterns of suspicious behaviour, but also to gain strategic insights for competitive advantage.

Resolution: New approaches to data capture, correlation, analysis and process automation open up new avenues to firms. They can deploy new, successful models to meet compliance needs, as well as generate smart business intelligence from captured communications data, including voice.

Takeaways:

  • Exploration of the challenges associated with capturing, correlating and making sense of communications data across a wide range of channels, business functions and asset classes.
  • Identification of the opportunities and benefits that can be realised from approaching these challenges the right way.
  • Investigation of the tools and techniques, particularly those using AI, ML & RPA, that can be deployed to meet the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities.
  • Assessment of future trends, challenges and opportunities around the use of AI, ML & RPA technologies for both regulatory compliance and strategic business insight.

Why Internet Connected Storage is Becoming the Most Dangerous Cybersecurity Blind Spot

To keep pace with the speed of digital transformation, enterprises are compelled to enable the shareability of even their most sensitive information, both within and beyond their network perimeter. Accordingly, enterprises are steadily increasing their use of internet connected storage, as are the third-party vendors that service them. Yet IT departments remain fixated on the robustness of their network perimeter, and overlook the significant risks of data leaks from connected storage. Connected storage devices are especially prone to data leakage, due to a combination of poor security configurations, user negligence, and opportunistic threat actors. The risk to enterprises escalates as they share more data with third-party vendors using such devices. In this session, we will discuss the nature of the information that is commonly leaked from connected storage, the ways that information might be exploited, and best practices to mitigate risks.

Takeaways:

  • Understand the risks of data leaks from connected storage
  • Learn how third-party vendors potentiate data leakage risks
  • Discover research findings from extensive connected storage scans
  • Obtain strategies to mitigate the risks of connected storage data leaks
